Victoria College of Music, London, was founded by Dr J H Lewis DCL FEIS MusD in 1890 and has provided a system of examinations in Music, Speech & Drama ever since.
Victoria College Examinations are administered by a private limited company: Victoria College of Music and Drama, London Ltd. Registered in England and Wales, the company is limited by shares. The Company uses a number of trading names including: Victoria College, London; Victoria College of Music, London; VCM; Victoria College Exams; Victoria College Examinations; London Music Press®; College of Violinists; SpeechPower®; and RockPower®.
There is a Governing Council all of whose members are shareholders in Victoria College of Music and Drama, London Ltd.

There is a standing Panel of Subject Advisors and a Board of Examiners.
Victoria College exists to encourage performers and support teachers. Its administrators, consultants and examiners all have experience as candidates and as teachers. Many examiners also teach. It is constituted unlike other boards so that examiners have an empathy for exam candidates and can support teachers. It operates entirely independently of public funds or external interference. It is a member of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors.
Examination sessions are arranged by network of Local Secretaries at centres throughout the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and several overseas countries.
